HPVA sits on the judging panel to assist SAP as it sets sail with 11 startups on a 100-day journey to promote entrepreneurship and innovation

Global business software leader SAP is participating in an innovative worldwide entrepreneurship support programme called Unreasonable at Sea.  This is a business accelerator initiative that is taking 11 innovative startups on a journey around the world by ship, stopping at various countries where entrepreneurs are given the opportunity to take part in workshops and engage with local experts to help them consolidate and expand their business proposals. The voyage will see the entrepreneurs interacting with world leaders, governments, venture capitalists and other entrepreneurs on stops in 13 ports, including Mauritius and Cape Town, South Africa.  For the Cape Town leg of the voyage, of the SAP Unreasonable at Sea event, entrepreneurs will each be given five minutes to pitch their business idea to a judging panel made up of:

  • Matt Mullenweg the founder of WordPress;
  • Prince Fahad Al Saud of Saudi Arabia;
  • Serial entrepreneur, Kamran Elahian;
  • Derek Kudsee, COO of SAP Africa and
  • Marc Balkin of Hasso Plattner Ventures Africa.

Marc Balkin from HPVA is guest speaker at Going Google Africa Roadshow

On the 19th March 2013 Google Enterprise, Grove Group, DotModus and 28East  brought the Going Google Roadshow for the first time to South Africa.

There was a distinguished line up of local and international speakers discussing cloud-based technology and the future of business in South Africa. Marc Balkin joined this prestigious event as guest speaker.

Hasso Plattner Ventures 2013 conference:

In South Africa supporting entrepreneurship is crucial in driving job creation, but we also need to build businesses that are sustainable and able to compete on a global scale.

The creation of an ecosystem where entrepreneurs build their businesses is paramount to success and job creation. IBM & HPVA join forces to bolster entrepreneurship in South Africa

IBM hosted Africa’s first IBM SmartCamp, a global programme that connects entrepreneurs, investors and mentors. South Africa’s top four creative and technology start-ups were given the opportunity to pitch their ideas to a panel of judges, in the hopes of being selected as a super entrepreneur who goes through to the finals taking place in New York in February 2013. The Launch of Hasso Plattner Ventures Africa

The R390-million venture capital fund was officially launched in Cape Town on Friday,
15 February by Professor Hasso Plattner, the co-founder, chairman and chief software advisor for global software giant SAP. The fund is co-funded by Ferrostaal, a global provider of industrial services.

The fund came in the wake of Professor Plattner’s other venture capital company, Hasso Plattner Ventures in Europe, headed by Eran Davidson, which had already established a track record as the most active early stage VC investor in Germany.
